Best of 2016 & Goals for 2017

It’s December 29… Can you believe it?!

While I spent a lot of time before Christmas evaluating the past year and planning for 2017, I wanted to share with my readers not only my top 5 posts of 2016, but also 5 of my goals for 2017.Ā 


Let’s start with my posts! I am happy to say I came just shy of doubling my blog views in 2016 compared to 2015. I was much more dedicated to sharing my knowledge this year and enjoyed every comment, “like” and social or personal share of my recipes, travel recaps and nutrition tips. I was especially thrilled every time I received an email or saw a social media post of my recipes that you made! I love that the foods I enjoy can make your life healthier, too.

Now let’s get to the top 5 posts that were visited this year.

5. I am thrilled my Post-Workout Purple Power Smoothie made the top 5! I imagine it’s features on the Philly/DC/Chicago Area Yoga blogs and in a Fitness Magazine article drove some of the traffic to one of my favorite recipes. I especially think it is great after a long run in the summer and for child athletes!

4. Chickpea Flour Banana Muffins came in at number four, though, if the year were longer, I think the Chickpea Flour Gingerbread Muffins would have surpassed them as they were just posted in November and would have taken the number 6 spot. Both are delicious so give them a try!

3. The third most popular recipe was my Maple Roasted Butternut Squash, Brussel Sprouts and Cranberries. This is my mom’s favorite recipe on the blog and a favorite of mine to make for the holidays! I updated the photos on this recipe a couple of months ago.

2. The top two are both soups! Two being my Hearty Vegetable and Bulgur Soup. While I think this dish is delicious, I have to say I am surprised to see it rank so high with outdated pictures! I would have expected my butternut squash and leek soup to make it but, I am glad everyone is enjoying it!

1. My #1 recipe is again, my Potato, Leek and Kale Soup! I first posted this soup in January 2014 when my blog was more of a recipe book for clients and students than an outreach project to people all over the world. This year I finally updated the old pictures, though! Now it looks as good as it tastes!

Now for my 2017 Goals. While I have a great plan set out from a professional standpoint, I will share my personal wellness goals here.

5. Attend at least one fitness event in the community each month.
I love the Philly fitness community and am so close to Princeton as well that I would love to be more integrated with like-minded individuals out of my typical settings.

4. Attend a yoga class at least once per week.
This is essential for stress management and injury prevention in the life of Kelly. I have never felt more healthy in my life than 3 years ago when I attended yoga classes 2-3 times per week. In 2016 I was lucky if I made it that many times each month.

3. Travel to at least 4 new places.
Luckily, I already have Italy planned for January and Houston for the Super Bowl in February. I may also count Portland, ME in June since I was only there briefly as a child and can’t remember it!

2. Compete in an Olympic Triathlon. Injuries kept me from this goal in 2016. I also have two friends who want to complete a triathlon for the first time this year so we will be coordinating which race very soon! It is crucial for these goals to be specific and timely.

1. Finally run a sub 2 hour 1/2 marathon and train injury-free.
{And then evaluate if a 2018 marathon is possible}. I unfortunately have never completed half marathon training appropriately because I hate speed work, travel too much on the weekends and am very injury prone. I am hoping by continuing to work on my form after my biomechanical evaluation, training correctly, sticking to my yoga goals, and staying consistent with chiropractic care that I can finally feel good during a race. I have completed 3 half marathons, the last being Rock n Roll Philly where I came in at 2 hours, 0 minutes and 4 seconds. SO annoyed. I will be running that same race this September and this time raising money for ALS.

I also plan to continue to support charities that matter to me and relate to my profession, do a better job at going to Church on Sundays, and live everyday with as positive an attitude as I can. I know the position I am in career wise allows me to motivate others to be their best selves and while education and counseling is important, leading by example is always best!

It has been a fabulous year – I would say for myself and my husband, our best years yet! With our enthusiasm for life and love of our jobs, I know 2017 is only going to get better.I also have an easy challenge to improve health coming the first week of 2017 so stay tuned!

  1. I definitely have to try those soup recipes. I have loved watching you grow this year and can’t wait to see what 2017 brings. I can’t imagine how frustrating those 4 seconds were in your 1/2, but this year you got it!!! I’m jumping on the wagon with that yoga goal too. So necessary!

    • Kim, that’s so nice of you! You killed it in 2016 too šŸ™‚ Isn’t yoga just so essential? I often find myself doing cardio or lifting when I am short on time when those are the times I should be chilling out and going to yoga instead. Cheers to a yogi year!
