Happy Weekend Everyone!
It has been a busier week than expected so, I apologize for lag time between posts. With Halloween coming up, and everyone rushing to the store to pick up candy this weekend, I wanted to share some of my past recommendations and a few new ones.
Back in 2014 I shared some non-candy options to balance out all of the sugar kids (and adults) will be ingesting. While I still use some of those items, like glow-sticks, I also am an advocate for Fair-Trade candy whenever possible. That was the focus of my 2015 post.
My one new non-candy idea this year is mini play-dough containers! A friend and co-worker actually thought of this and texted me a picture of a big bag of small play-dough containers while in BJ’s Wholesale one day and I knew I had to share her genius idea with everyone!
I am also excited that Unreal candy is back in PA! I didn’t know why they disappeared for awhile but, after speaking with them at Expo East this year, learned that the expanded to quickly and chose to back out of our region for a bit. Now they are ready to take on the volume! They are fair-trade and non-GMO as well as gluten-free if that is important in your diet.
I was also on Fox 29’s Good Day Philadelphia this past week and wanted to share some tips on how to avoid nightmare’s this spooky time of year! The station contacted me as there was an study done at a Canadian college that connected certain foods to nightmares in the students. The segment covers my hypothesis on why the foods listed could have caused those problems plus, my most common scary dream!
I also want to share how to roast all the pumpkin seeds once you’re done carving the pumpkins in just 15 minutes via a couple of great dietitians over at teaspoonofspice.com!
Finally, the winner of the Pure Genius brownie and blondie giveaway is Kim Hoban! I used good ol’ Excel to pick the random winner from the comments on the blog and Instagram entries. Everyone else that entered can still get 15% off of blondies and brownies from Pure Genius by using code Jones15 by October 31!
Have a happy, healthy and safe Halloween!
